2017 Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron 2ème Cru, Pauillac
Region: Bordeaux
Sub Region: Pauillac
Variety: Cabinet Sauvignon, Merlot
Country: France
Vintage: 2017
The Wine
The grand vin of Château Pichon Baron is a 2nd Cru Classé, ranked in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. The fruit for this wine is sourced from the oldest vines grown on those historic blocks of the Pauillac estate.
In 1850, the then larger estate was divided into two smaller estates, the other being that of Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. In 1987, Pichon Baron was purchased by AXA Insurance, adding the estate to their large wine holdings.
Cellared Says
A deep garnet-purple in colour that simply sings of vibrant blackcurrants, black cherries and rose hip notes with nuances of potpourri, incense, liquorice and pencil shavings plus touches of cigar box and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, super intense and possessing stunning poise, it has very firm, fine-grained tannins and a beautifully silken texture, with bags of freshness and a very long, perfumed finish. In holding phase currently (Feb 2025) but opens up with decanting, give it another couple of years for it to develop into its fullest expression

The currants, blackberries and spices are very pretty here on the nose. The palate is medium-to full-bodied with round, compact tannins and a fresh, linear finish. Cool and racy. Strong and focused. Drink after 2023.
