The Wine
A member of the classic school of white Châteauneuf-du-Pape: more floral than fruity aromas, and characterised by balance and freshness. It might dip in form between four and eight years, but the best vintages age as well as the reds.
One of the Rhône's great estates, Vieux Telegraphe is run by Fredec and Daniel Brunier, the great-grandsons of founder, Hippolyte Brunier. The domaine occupies some 70 hectares on the stony plateau of Le Crau in the east of the Châteauneufdu- Pape appellation. The wines of Vieux Telegraphe are true classics - robust and earthy with strong personalities and a great track record of longevity in the cellar. The reds are led by Grenache with Mourvedre and Syrah following in behind and are aged in concrete tank for 9 months before time in foudre. As a counterpoint to the estates rich red wine offerings, the white wines show great detail and clarity with the Châteauneuf predominately Clairette and Grenache Blanc with aging split between stainless steel tanks and barrique.
Cellared Says
From private cellar. High neck, no seepage, perfect label.
Every time I try a CndP Blanc I’m blown away and tell myself to buy more. Even more so with medium term of cellaring behind them. The waxy, honeyed, lanolin notes back the vinous, ever so slightly oily texture and pure richness of fruit to this voluptuous wine. Think quince, apple pie, lemon pith, pear notes with a distinct saline spray in good years.
Wine Reviews
" This cuts a nice path, with crème fraîche, green plum, pear and Jonagold apple flavors all woven together and offset by a flash of quinine on the finish. This should age well. The best vintage yet for a Vieux Télégraphe white. "
